I bought long matches, a USA Today, a KC Star, and two pastries at the grocery store this morning. The cover story of USA Today is how California is fucked. I don’t know why I’m going there.

I’ve been listening to the two songs above for hours on end lately. They’re reassuring to me. They feel like a life lived out. A home full of promise and memories. They feel like a strong foundation during a storm. The electricity has gone out and the house is awake and frightened; the entire family, sleepy eyed and restless, is sitting around the kitchen table playing cards by lantern light. The windows all light up and there is an immediate clap of thunder, everyone screams but a smile creeps around the room and soon muffled giggles burst into laughter. The storms outside, not in here. And so the hand is finished as the thunder rolls and rain falls. The storm moves on and it’s back to bed, the day will come too soon. But your foundation is stronger than before and tomorrow can’t change that.

My friend Chris wrote this, and I can’t agree more.
